Hi - I don't think you need any precautions right now that you wouldn't otherwise take for covid, flu, RSV or whooping cough. Keep sick people and crowds away from baby as possible until around 2 months. Ideally vaccinated caregivers (more evidence based for pertussis and flu - they decrease odds of a newborn getting sick... you may consider getting Tdap * if due and flu while pregnant as these are likely of benefit). Polio is really not a likely thing for you to encounter, though we'll follow the news.
I wanted to make sure I was up to date, so I looked at my medical records, and I received the IPV booster in 1999. At the time, I was in college in Massachusetts and came home to NYC. Why would I have been boosted then?!
Is it important to get a child’s 4th dose of IPV at 4? The guidelines say 4-6, which confuses me a little in this situation. I have a 4 year old that has had 3 doses. Wondering what kind of protection he has.
It’s typically required before kindergarten. A lot of school age vaccines have a bigger window. I would say he has good protection and get the booster whenever unless you are in nyc/Rockland in which case I would say now. But the schools are pretty strict here and most pediatricians do it at 4 yr visit
Live in NYC. Baby due in 6 weeks. What precautions should we take before baby has all shots?

Should I think about this any differently if I'm trying to get pregnant? I'm in Michigan and my 1.5 year old has all her vaccines up to this point.
I would not. Michigan hasn't reported any cases and you and your child are likely very well protected!

My guess is that you could only locate part of your vaccine record and it was required for school? There weren't as far as I know any cases in the US during that time. 2005, 2008, 2013 I know of... but nothing of note in 1999! https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/polio/hcp/vaccine-derived-poliovirus-faq.html
