Thanks, Kelly! This is super helpful. It would be great to hear your thoughts on mitigating risk while traveling with kids. We live 3000 miles from my parents, so we’re going to bite the bullet and go there, now that both adults are vaccinated. Would love to hear your thoughts on precautions to take on the trip and how to safely return to daycare without doubling the length of the trip with a 10 day quarantine afterwards. Seems like the CDC somehow hasn’t considered this, yet...

Are your kids old enough to mask? It's interesting because when MA and NY repealed their requirements for travel associated testing, they noted that case tracking has not found increased cases amongst travelers. We have to respect any daycare or local rules for travel. A long flight unfortunately is more of a risk than a short flight (more people eating more time in close proximity to others) so I would suggest that if you have non-maskers (too young) it may be a considerate thing to the daycare community to quarantine even for a day or two (ideally 5-7 days but every day helps) and test. I also think there is an inherent difference between visiting family vs. visiting family at a theme park in terms of risk. So the actions you take during the visit will affect the risk. That said it's so magical for grandparents to see their grandkids I hope you have a really nice time.

Would love to hear your thoughts on birthday parties for kids during the pandemic, and any ideas you had on how to celebrate.

My biggest suggestions are 1) outside, 2) maintain any fixed cohorts from school/daycare, 3) keep unvaccinated adults distanced. We really miss birthday parties.
